Antiques are probably what Portobello Road in Notting Hill is most famous for. Saturday is the main trading day in this famous London destination, although some of the shops are open during the week, the street stalls are not and if you are visiting, Saturday is the day you should come.
This market has built its reputation on antiques and is immortalised in Michael Bond's Paddington Bear stories.
Portobello Road is a road in the Notting Hill district of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in west London, England. It runs almost the length of Notting Hill from south to north, roughly parallel with Ladbroke Grove. On Saturdays it is home to Portobello Road Market, one of London's notable street markets, known for its antiques and for the setting of one of the scenes in Bedknobs and Broomstick
Portobello Market is home to around 2000 Antiques Dealers who trade on a regular basis one way or another - they vary from upmarket shop owners to small specialists who might share a market stall or table in the street as they only have a few items on offer at any one time.
